FULL-TIME HEAD OFFICE JOBS...

Events Organiser Internship

Are you looking to get your foot in the door of mass participation sporting events? We are looking for future Event Managers, Project Planners and those with a passion for the outdoors and the world of sporting events to join our Internship programme.

Over the course of 6 months you will be part of a team delivering the UK’s biggest mass participation series of walks & runs – the Ultra Challenge Series. You will gain experience and a valuable insight into a number of different areas of the events, from planning, preparing, marketing and recruitment to logistics, delivery and on the day organisation.  

A varied and flexible role, your day to day duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Helping to deliver world class charity challenge events
  • Providing quality customer service to our participants and charity partners
  • Prepping equipment, materials and literature ready for event delivery
  • Coordinating the staff teams that work on the events
  • Research, design and innovation
  • Assisting on weekend events throughout the summer events season

THE CANDIDATE:

The ideal candidate will:

  • A university graduate with a related degree in Events Management or Sports
  • Be enthusiastic, resourceful and proactive with a genuine interest in an event management career
  • Be a graduate with a keen interest in outdoor sports events
  • Be a highly organised multi-tasker
  • Have proven experience in an organisational  role, able to follow process and manage own workload
  • Be confident with good interpersonal skills and good telephone manner
  • Have excellent, demonstrable Excel, Word, and PowerPoint expertise
  • Be a fluent speaker of English and eligible to live and work in the United Kingdom
  • Be excited about working on multiple weekend events (in exchange for lieu/overtime) throughout the event season May – September.

Marketing Coordinator

Summary:

We are seeking a bright & ambitious individual to join our marketing team to help plan, create and deliver a varied communications journey across a range of platforms and mediums. You will have either a degree in a relevant subject (eg English, Communications, Marketing, Business Studies) – and ideally with at least 1-2 years of experience in a broadly similar role.

 We are an outdoor events company, and have a growing audience of engaged and committed participants; from those looking to take on a 25km walk in London to others planning to tackle a mountain in the Himalayas. An interest in the outdoors, and an understanding of excellent brand communication, are both likely to be key.

 You will be joining the company at an exciting time of recovery and further expansion, as our aim to deliver the very best challenge events in the marketplace as we head into a post Covid 2021 and beyond.

Who we are looking for...

You will be a self motivated, hard working, confident individual with the desire to work in a dynamic, busy team – with a flexible approach to work and with a rounded, generalist skill-set and a very good eye for detail.  You will ideally have some previous experience of website editing and CMS platforms, you will have a real interest in developing online platforms and deliver work to a high standard and level of detail.

Customer Services Coordinator

We are looking for a Customer Services Co-Coordinator to assist with the administration & operations of our events - as well as dealing with clients and incoming enquiries.

This role is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate to gain valuable experience within a busy and dynamic events company, working on some of the UK’s biggest and most respected challenge events. You will have an office based role, with the opportunity to gain on event experience throughout the year.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Responding to sales & customer questions enquiries, telephone calls, emails
  • Processing of invoices, and record keeping of finances
  • Creating invoices & up keeping finance files
  • Updating and maintaining accurate records of clients
  • Maintain records and file documents for instance; work sheet packs, risk assessments, finance & invoices
  • Deal with any customer complaints
  • Data inputting & record keeping
  • Act as a daily contact point in office for incoming enquiries
  • Assist with general administration associated with challenge events
  • Reporting on data & analysis - excel spreadsheets & online records
  • Support social media strategy

Skills required: -

  • A minimum of 1 year recent experience in providing administrative support within a busy office environment

Event Managers

About Action Challenge: Action Challenge organises outdoor challenge events and inspirational adventures in the UK, Europe, and Worldwide for individuals, companies, groups and charities. Our events are usually unforgettable.  We specialise in creating unique challenges, and in 2019 over 20,000 people walked, jogged or run on one of our Ultra Challenge events, raising over £7 million for over 400 different UK charities. In 2021 we will be expanding these events to 14 across the year, as we grow and expand the series. 

Experience:  You will ideally have several years experience working on mass challenge events as Site Manager, or within a role whereby you’ve had direct responsibility for managing a team of people, suppliers and venues.

Role:  You will be the lynchpin to one of our busy sites during our Ultra Challenge Event Season in the UK which runs between January and September 2020.  Your role is an important one managing both event crew and volunteers (with the help of an Assistant Site Manager) to ensure sites are ready on time and managed effectively throughout the event.  

Each site is different and your previous event experience will enable you to manage these smoothly with the support of the rest of your team.  You will receive the back-up of a strong logistics team and support crew to help you when needed. Events will generally encompass 3 days - 2 for the actual event and a day to co-ordinate and set up the infrastructure of the site.  Shifts will be allocated to all staff however it will be your responsibility to ensure your site is managed throughout the event, especially overnight.  

You will need to be a proactive person with a “can do” attitude who is able to remain calm under pressure.  It is important that you have a great attention to detail and are able to follow Site Plans and event information clearly.

You will be tasked with managing a variety of different roles over the course of the event from infrastructure set-up to over-seeing timing, information, drop outs, shuttles, staff, catering, and all of the other diverse jobs at our rest stops. Of course none of these jobs would be complete without giving a cheer to our fundraisers who are making their way through our event.

Event Crew

Experience:  You will ideally have experience working on mass challenge events although someone who is able to work as part of a team, has energy and determination and a “can do” attitude will also be considered.

Role:  You will be at the core of our “on-event” team with a variety of different roles over the course of the event.  These will involve helping to set up sites, manning information points and registration areas, timing, helping with catering, presenting fundraisers with their medals, T-shirts and a glass of fizz and all of the other diverse jobs at our rest stops. Cheering the fundraisers who are making their way through our event is also a very important requirement.

Each site is different and under the supervision of your Site Manager you will help to keep the site running smoothly, especially at the busier times.  Events will generally encompass 3 days - 2 for the actual event and a day to co-ordinate and set up the infrastructure of the site.  We have a number of roles, whether it is for the whole event including helping to set up sites on the Friday or just one shift.

As work can sometimes be labour intensive you must be physically fit and willing to help with the heavy lifting.  You will also need to be a reliable, proactive person with strong work ethics with a good attention to detail.

We are preferably looking for people who are able to commit to working on a number of our Ultra Challenge Events over the season (which are held January-September) and become part of our successful, fun event team, although we will consider those who are able to commit when they can

UK & Expedition Doctors

Every event we organise is accompanied by an event Doctor. Along with the expedition leaders or site managers, it’s your responsibility to oversee the health and physical well-being of our participants. From running day to day clinics for the challengers and offering words of encouragement where required, to facilitating evacuations in medical emergencies, life is certainly never dull for our event Medics.

In order to qualify successfully as an International medic for Action Challenge, you must be a qualified Doctor with fantastic people skills, a love for the great outdoors, a real desire to help others to achieve their goals and also have personal or professional high altitude experience (3500m+ above sea level). Completion of an Expedition Medical course or similar and previous experience on high altitude treks are also highly desirable as is experience as a medic on an Action Challenge UK event.
