Training Walks & Weekends

One of the best ways to get ready for the challenge, is by taking part in one or more of our organised training walks. Get the 'feel' for the challenge ahead and build up that base level of fitness!

Led by experienced Action Challenge leaders, these training walks are also an excellent opportunity to get advice on training, equipment and nutrition - as well as meeting like-minded 'action challengers.'

London Day Walks

  • 7 June 2015

Our London Training Walk! Leaving from a Central London location, we will follow 18 miles of the Thames Path Trail, heading for Richmond. The fairly flat path will aid your training in your kit, equipment and give you the chance to test out your pace, fitness and emulate the experience of being on your feet for a long distance. As a walk to kit start your training regime this is a perfect way to get you going and meet fellow challengers as you walk.

London Night Walks

Taking the London Thames route and setting off between 11 pm - and midnight there is no better way to practice the night time walking sections of the challenge then to get out there and walk at night! Lead by our experienced guides, head torches - the aim of the night training walk is to get your body and mind used to the slightly surreal experience of walking for a long period of time at night - when your body wants to be resting.

North Downs Day Walks

This walk begins in Guildford, climbing from the town via the Riverside Walk. From here you will pass in and out of the woods and through the beautiful county of Surrey Hills, offering beautiful views over the Valleys to the South, before eventually reaching Denbies, Dorking.

South Downs Day Walks

Our particular training walk follows part of the National Park’s 100 mile trail, from Clayton to Southease, traversing Ditchling Beacon and stretching over a rare large area of outstanding natural beauty. The South Downs Way is a fantastic and challenging training walk

Training Weekends

Our training weekends are the best way to prepare yourself physically and mentally prior to tackling one of our Challenges, and they are a great way to meet other trekkers, the Action Challenge team and our fully qualified Mountain Leaders.  They're also a brilliant excuse to also test out your kit and equipment on a mountain, against the elements!

We have a number of Training Weekends in the Peak DistrictSnowdonia and the Breacon Beacons spread across the year, from early Spring until September, so there should be a weekend to suit you. We also run Snowdon Night Time Summit weekends to replicate summit night on Kilimanjaro.



The Ultra Challenge Series

Self funding places now released on the Isle of Wight and London 2 Brighton Challenges! Make 2015 a year to remember and choose from 5 events, to run, jog, or walk any distance! After a fantastic inaugural year - Challenge Cancer is back in 2015 with avengance. We now have two rides, the original London 2 Brighton and a new Northern Ride - the Transpennine Challenge.

Both Rides now have even more options, we have a day ride, a night ride and a there and back! On top of this the North ride can be taken on in either direction - so you choose, Manchester to Leeds or Leeds to Manchester!

Ride 24 HR

Ride 24 HR - Newcastle 2 London.

Final DownhillWe are happy to announce the return of Ride 24 hr for 2015! This year we will have reinstated the 2013 Newcastle to London challenge. This leviathan will see 300 cyclists, take on 300 miles due South, with an aim to reach the nation's capital within 24 hrs.

Also new for 2015 we have dropped the registration fees to just £199 per person. So there really is no excuse! It is time to get your bike out and get into training.

Congratulations Trekkers!

Congratulations to our New Year Killi Climbers! 

As the sun dawned on a new day and year on the morning 1st January 2015 - our group of 25 intrepid trekkers successfully reached the summit of Kilimanjaro - seeing in the New Year from a different perspective!

After setting off from London on boxing day - opting for fresh air and trekking over another box of Quality Street and Dr Who re-runs - our group took on the 6 day Machame route up to the summit. Blessed with good weather and great views of the summit it is an experience not to be forgotten.

 "I loved every second and never had a down moment. I doubt I will ever top this!"

There's a Q&A session, a presentation about the routes, what it's like on the mountain, when to go & what to expect, kit, altitude & training.

Hosted at the Doggett's Coat & Badge Pub on Blackfriars Bridge with a great view of the Thames - starts at 7.00pm - so please arrive from 6:45pm - and finishes by 8.30pm

Kilimanjaro Open Evening

Come & meet us to find out all about our Kilimanjaro challenge. We run a series of open evenings throughout the year for you to find out more - if you're thinking of signing up to one of our challenges we invite you to come along and meet with us to find out more about what it is we do!

We would like to extend a huge congratulations to all of our 509 Isle of Wight Challengers who took on the island over the bank holiday weekend -  and made the weekend one we will never forget! For it's first year the Isle of Wight Challenge can be described as our toughest challenge yet - but also one of our most stunning! We are completely in awe at the determination and sense of spirit everyone showed - and for many it was their longest challenge yet!

 We are excited to announce that for 2015 the Isle of Wight Challenge will take place over the May bank holiday weekend - 2nd - 3rd May so get it in your diaries now. We have partnered with the Isle of Wight walking festival, and have many exciting ideas about how we will be looking to grow the challenge!From Nick Barwick who took just an incredible 12 hours and 8 minutes to run the challenge and was first to cross the finish line - to our other challengers who took a bit longer, some out on the course for a staggering 36 hours - we think you are all winners.
