cycle Kilimanjaro for Education
East Africa with community project

Departure from the UK

We depart UK for an overnight flight to Tanzania.

Chem-Chem campsite

We arrive as the sun warms the morning air around Kilimanjaro. Here we transfer to Marangu and our first camp and the location of Education East Africa, Chem Chem, close to the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. We have some time to relax and enjoy a dinner together and briefing about the climb in general, the charity and the importance of the mountain to the surrounding communities.

Chem-Chem campsite

Today, we spend the day visiting the Project Work carried out by Education East Africa. This day will also allow us to acclimatise before starting our cycle in the morning. We have dinner together, provided by the Chem-Chem Campsite, before heading to bed early to prepare ourselves for our challenge ahead.

Lake Chala

Our adventure begins from camp and we head through the morning bustle of Marangu Village and east through the winding hilly roads on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. We pedal through the village of Mwika before heading over to the 3.5sq miles - Lake Chala.- situated at 900m above sea level and stradding the Kenya/Tanzania border

Snow Cap Camp

Today we wake early and start our ride today through the Rombo region and into the Snow Cap campsite in the mid-afternoon. Lunch and rehydration stations will be spread throughout this day. Today is the longest up-hill stretch so we’ll be sure to need some good energy for this afternoon’s cycle. Once we reach the camp, we have dinner and get an early night ready for the following day’s cycle.

Bush Camp

Today we have a solid half-day of riding to our secluded campsite just on the border of a game controlled area. We reach camp early and spend the afternoon resting or there is an opportunity to go on an easy hike with your guides to see the surroundings. This will offer true African wild camping with dinner cooked over an open fire.

West Kilimanjaro

After a relaxing afternoon, today we have a beautiful ride ahead of us through to West Kilimanjaro region and to our destination of a Masaai Boma (a traditional Masaai homestead and livestock enclosure), where you will get a chance to experience Massai culture up close and sleep in traditional huts made of mud and cow dung!

Oasis Camp

Today is our great descent to a beautiful Oasis campsite at the base of the mountain. It is a rough road descent, which is a thrilling but challenging one so it will certainly push your personal limit!

Today, we have a gentle ride in the morning before transferring to our hotel in Moshi to reflect on our achievements of the ride. We enjoy a free afternoon before coming together in the evening for our celebration dinner.

DAY 10

Return Flight

Those who are joining us on the KiliSafari will head off to the Ngorongoro Crater early morning to discover more of Africa! Please see separate brochure for further details on this. For the remaining members of the group, we have a free morning in Moshi before we board our flight to London.

DAY 11
